FOOTBALL
Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is the world’s most popular sport. It is a team game played between two sides of 11 players each, including a goalkeeper. The objective is simple: score more goals than the opponent by getting the ball into the opposing team's net.
The game is played on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field with goals at both ends. A standard match lasts 90 minutes, divided into two halves of 45 minutes, with added time for stoppages. If scores are level in knockout matches, extra time and penalty shootouts may be used to determine a winner.
It’s a sport that combines skill, teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, and it’s deeply rooted in cultures across the globe—played by millions and watched by billions.
BASKETBALL
Basketball is a fast-paced team sport played between two teams of five players each. The main goal is to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is mounted 10 feet (3.05 meters) above the ground.
The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. A standard game consists of four quarters (usually 12 minutes each in professional leagues). The team with the most points at the end wins. If the score is tied, the game goes into overtime.
Players move the ball by dribbling (bouncing it while moving) or passing to teammates. Points are scored by making field goals (2 or 3 points depending on distance) or free throws (1 point each).
Basketball is known for its speed, skill, and athleticism. It emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and individual talent—especially in shooting, passing, defending, and rebounding.
It was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith and has grown into one of the most popular sports worldwide, with major leagues like the NBA (USA), EuroLeague, and Olympic competition drawing global attention.
